Splat's 7

<back (Splat's Journey) back to beginning>

Splat used seven steps to bring him from living a little drop's life to being Art Smart. Each step is part of a journey and is repeated on a regular basis. Use these steps as a guide and discover how you can begin to make the world a better by practicing doodling and drawing how you feel and what you think.

1. Plan
  1. Study history. All types of history are important: art history, the history of your country, the history of your family, and more.
  2. Learning from your own mistakes is important, too. Think about what you would have changed in your past-and plan to do better next time.

2. Learn
  1. Listen to yourself. What makes you happy? What brings you to action? Make a list of things you love and make sure you dedicate lots of study and time to them.
  2. Learn about others' passions: find out what your friends and family love. It's okay if you don't all like the same thing.
  3. Celebrate your differences!

3. Choose
  1. Choose your workspace carefully. Find a place you know you can work and clear out any distractions in the way-loud music, distracting pictures, and other interruptions
  2. Choose 5 mentors who can help you achieve your goals.
  3. Choose to act according to the character traits you have decided are important.

4. Focus
  1. Block out or filter unwanted thoughts. It's okay to put some things on a "To Think About Later" list.
  2. Think about your goals. What do you want to achieve? Picture yourself reaching your goal, and keep that mental image at the front of your though
  3. ts.

5. Start
  1. Put your ideas into action, but make sure you have a plan first. Write down your goals or make a timeline.
  2. Make a list of materials you need, questions you have, and other things that are keeping you from getting started. Then start tackling those challenges!
  3. Keep track of the people and resources that can help you reach your goal. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you get stuck along the way.

6. Share
  1. The best way to get more is to give more. Share what you've learned, and tell people about the process that got you there.
  2. Help others who are trying to reach a goal. Be supportive and ready to lend a hand.

7. Live
  1. Look at misfortunes as chances to learn.
  2. Don't make this process a one-time event. Learning is a life-long process.
  3. Live life to the fullest and try to make the world better by doing what you love.

How can you learn to be Art Smart? Try starting with a pencil in hand and beginning the doodling and drawing process. With practice, it won't be long until images appear and ideas turn into words. Words soon turn into action, and before you know it, you're on a mission to make the world a better place.

Parents and teachers: Use these as a starting point when planning activities to help students identify their passions, ideas, and goals.
